Reflections about Western and Eastern ways of living

One of the most famous tabla players, Tanmoy Bose, invites four musicians from Berlin to his home in Kolkata, India. Together they want to make a travel into the world of music. The musicians bring along their influences of European jazz to meet old classical Indian music. If everything works out fine, they will play together on concerts and release their first CD. Under the name of "Taal tantra", which means meditation and rhythm, they donate their sales revenues to poor children in Kolkata.

But their working together is getting more difficult than expected. Different philosophies and attitudes confront each other. The question comes up if the German-Indian group will stay together in spite of their problems? Inbetween the musicians get lost in the chaotic city of Kolkata with its own rhythms and ambiances, being confronted with its poverty and contradictions.

On their way they reflect their own life and make their personal thesis about the existing cultural differences. The people in the Western world have a more individualistic way of living, while Eastern culture is more focused on the community. Each culture is convinced of knowing the right way. But when the two cultures tolerate and talk openly to each other, they could overcome borders and learn from each other.
